Each year this premier educational and scientific meeting brings together leaders and innovators in the specialty of veterinary surgery and allied specialties from around the world.

Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for Asia, the Far East and Oceania

The 25th Conference of the Regional Commission for Asia, the Far East and Oceania of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) was held in Queenstown, (New Zealand) from 27 to 30 November 2007.

The Conference was chaired by Dr Barry O’Neil, the OIE Delegate for New Zealand and President of the OIE International Committee. Honourable Jim Anderton, Minister for Biosecurity and Agriculture of New Zealand, Dr Bernard Vallat, the Director General of the OIE, Delegates of OIE Members, representatives of international and regional organisations and observers attended the Conference.

New Delhi World Conference on Avian Influenza Prevention and Control

As the international community prepares for a third international conference on highly pathogenic influenza (HPAI) H5N1 to take place in New Delhi , India the OIE reiterates its strategic approach for tackling the crisis.

60 countries reported an H5N1 infection in the period 2003-2007 . Up to December 2006 more than 200 million birds were culled or died of the disease and according to the World Health Organisation, so far the human deaths toll is of 206 worldwide.
