After completing the Associate of Science in Livestock Science, many students choose to further their education by pursuing a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences or another major at the Ohio State Columbus campus. Those who graduate with a major in animal sciences are prepared for a variety of careers related to the specific course emphasis which agrees with each student’s goals. Many graduates work in allied industries such as breed associations, artificial insemination organizations, feed companies, equipment companies, research laboratories, meat-packing and animal product processing plants, government agencies, biotechnical industries, and in the business aspects of chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Students may return to their home farm, start an operation of their own, or manage others’ operations. Beginning salaries for animal science graduates range from $17,000 to $30,000 per year, depending upon the position, candidates’ skills, and other factors determined by employers.
