The person in this position will conduct immunology research. Flow cytometry and cell assay techniques will be used to evaluate neutrophil function. This position will conduct research on innate immunity, stress, and immunomodulation in fish, birds and mammals. This person will study effects of different environmental factors, disease challenges, and dietary immunomodulators in vivo and in vitro on neutrophil function and disease resistance. Functional assays will be used to evaluate the neutrophil responses to different acute and chronic stress conditions. This person will take leadership in preparing grant proposals to continue funding of the research program. This person will also provide scientific advice and guidance as appropriate to technicians, graduate students, visiting scientists and post-docs in the research group. Required Qualifications - DVM and 5 years experience in innate immunology, infectious disease research and toxicology. - Experience in manuscript and grant preparation and submission. Preferred Qualifications - Phd in a related area - Knowledge of fish, bird and mammalian immunology and diseases, and toxicology, microbiology, and statistics. - Knowledge of how to perform neutrophil function assays, serology and ELISA tests, tissue cultures; isolate, grow and characterize bacteria and viruses; perform challenge and toxicity tests, including results, analysis and interpretation.
