The World Veterinary Congress 2008, Celebrate Our Diversity

The World Veterinary Congress is one of the premier events of the Veterinary Profession worldwide and is expected to draw 2,000+ International attendees to Vancouver. Focusing on the theme “CELEBRATE OUR DIVERSITY”, the 2008 program will offer opportunities for veterinarians and other veterinary health care providers in all fields. The program is divided into two major tracks: Clinical Practice/ Private Practice and Public Practice/ Public Health which will offer various keynote and simultaneous sessions, guaranteeing a program of interest to all veterinarians, veterinary technicians, para-veterinarians and others with a role in animal health. In addition, selected abstracts will be presented both orally and through poster presentation.

Dr Duane Landals, Chair of the organising committee welcomed the almost 2000 participants to the 29th World Veterinary Congress. The congress was formally opened by WVA President Dr Leon Russell following a blessing by the First Nation People who presented a talking stick to President Russell. The opening was followed by the first plenary session focussed on One World-One Medicine-One Health with impressive presentations by Dr Bernard Vallat (OIE Director General), Dr Brian Evans (Canadian Chief Veterinary Officer), Dr Lonnie King (Director National Center for Zoonotic, Vector Borne, and Enteric Diseases).
